Attention! Attention!
JA Parents and caregivers, please join us as we connect virtually for a casual meet and greet event where our mission is to connect with others who are on a similar journey. Not only will you meet families, but this will be a safe space where we can share ideas and strategies that have helped your family or just simply get to know families like your own.
This will be an open discussion with topics ranging from:
- Relationships with Family and Friends
- Has arthritis affected my family’s communication?
- Helping my friends and family to understand.
- Personal Feelings
- How did I feel when I was first told that my child had arthritis?
- How do I deal with any stigma my child may experience as a result of living with arthritis?
- How do I deal with any fear I have as a result of living with or having a child with arthritis?
- Managing Life Changes
- Traveling and vacationing with arthritis.
- Aids or little tricks that I have found helpful in my everyday life.
- Considering using assistive devices.
- Dealing with “invisible disability.”
- Sharing Experiences
- What would I say in a note or a letter to a parent whose child was recently diagnosed or what would I ask a parent that was been on this journey for years?
- What positive experiences have occurred as a result of having a child with arthritis?
- Physician/Professional Relationships
- What could I tell the doctor in order for him/her to better treat my child? What do I want
him or her to know about my child in general?
- What could I tell the doctor in order for him/her to better treat my child? What do I want
- Future Events/Event Suggestions
Other topics are welcomed and encouraged!
We hope to see you then!

Hello just joined,
I had questions if anyone has looked at the causes, and medications to control it? Meletrexate and puberty? the vacines?
just any and all information would be helpful thank you.
Keith
Hi Keith and welcome to the JA parent group!
As a reminder, this parent group is not meant to seek medical advice or provide medical advice, rather share experiences and offer support. I would encourage to speak with your child's physician to obtain more information on treatment options and how puberty can impact JA. There are many resources on the arthritis website. I will link this one here: https://www.arthritis.org/diseases/juvenile-idiopathic-arthritis
I would recommend obtaining a power pack if you have a child with JA! It comes with an informational book with many resources and information including medication such as methotrexate and other treatment options. Here is the link for that: https://www.arthritis.org/juvenile-arthritis/get-your-ja-power-pack
Hope this helps!

Hello, has any one here visited Mexico for any medical treatment? Trying to find out how people go and research about their target doctor/clinic. I would love to talk to a few people who have experienced the trip and get their opinions. Thanks!
Hi Muhammad,
I myself have no sought treatment outside of the US for my daughter. As a reminder, this parent group is not meant to give or receive medical advice and your main point of contact for medical advice should be your child's physician. Because the Arthritis Foundation is a national organization, I am unsure if they have any resources in Mexico. I wonder if you could reach out to local rheumatologist in your area and ask if they know any rheumatologist practicing in Mexico.
I hope you can get answers quickly and please share if you do!
