This online group serves parents of children living with Juvenile Arthritis who are in middle school from across the country. We invite those who are looking for support, education, robust programming, expert speakers, and connection to join us and meet others who understand children in this life stage.

Live Yes! Connect Groups for JA Parents provide connections, education, and empowerment for parents and caregivers with children living with rheumatic disease. JA Parents come together for professional and volunteer-led sessions on a variety of topics and group activities as it relates to raising a child with arthritis.

Participants gain skills to advocate for their child, help their child develop self-management skills, and discover strategies for daily living. These groups are part of an expanding range of Arthritis Foundation resources that provides personalized help & support to parents who have a child/teen with a childhood rheumatic disease.

Parents of Middle School Students with JA – Meet & Greet, 504/IEPs & More!

Join us for our first meeting of the JA Parent Connect Group for parents of children in middle school on September 28st at 7 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CST. We are pleased to have Ms. Amy McCormick joining us. Ms. McCormick is a JA Parent and special education teacher. Amy's daughter, Kylie, age 20, was diagnosed with Poly JIA in 2009. She has been a special education teacher for 26 years and has taught in Baltimore and New York. Amy is a Platinum Ambassador for the Arthritis Foundation and she and Kylie have advocated for many years for both medical and educational rights for kids and teens with arthritis. During this meeting, we will discuss IEPs/504 and help guide parents in creating their child/children’s plan, provide tips, and answer any questions they may have about IEPs/504s. We recommend that parents view the upcoming JA and School: Advocating for Your Child Webinar with Heidi Smith on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. We will build from what you learn in that webinar to create personalized plans to meet your needs. After our presentation, there will be time to connect with others, brainstorm about future topics, and learn about some JA Parent resources. Friends, Family, and Care Partners are always welcome to join meetings. We respect privacy and confidentiality and do not record our online meetings. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link to participate via video or phone. Being on video is not required nor having a Zoom account. A confirmation email will be sent upon registration. The Zoom link will be sent the day of the event to those who RSVP. Please plan to log in a few minutes early. If you do not receive the link, please check your spam folder. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Parents of Middle School Students with JA - Microbiome, Gut Health & Arthritis

Scientific evidence linking gut health and arthritis, as well as a slew of other diseases, continues to grow. Research has successfully connected the gut microbiome — the ecosystem of trillions of microorganisms inhabiting the digestive tract that can help stabilize the immune system — to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and lupus nephritis. In this episode, we explore the microbiome-arthritis connection, including its effect on inflammation. We’ll also discuss proven strategies to help improve and maintain the microbiome balance. When the microbiome is out of balance — generally from illness, poor diet, antibiotics, smoking, stress or obesity — the immune system can also get out of whack. The information presented is for informational and educational purposes only. This information should not be construed as personal medical advice. Because each person’s health needs are different, a physician should be consulted before acting on any information provided during this meeting. After our presentation, there will be time to connect with others, brainstorm about future topics, and learn about some JA Parent resources. More About Volunteering

Live Yes! INSIGHTS

Give Just 10 Minutes.

Tell us what matters most to you. Change the future of arthritis.

By taking part in the Live Yes! INSIGHTS assessment, you’ll be among those changing lives today and changing the future of arthritis, for yourself and for 54 million others. And all it takes is just 10 minutes.

Your shared experiences will help:

- Lead to more effective treatments and outcomes
- Develop programs to meet the needs of you and your community
- Shape a powerful agenda that fights for you

Now is the time to make your voice count, for yourself and the entire arthritis community.

Currently this program is for the adult arthritis community.  Since the needs of the juvenile arthritis (JA) community are unique, we are currently working with experts to develop a customized experience for JA families.

How are you changing the future?

By sharing your experience, you’re showing decision-makers the realities of living with arthritis, paving the way for change. You’re helping break down barriers to care, inform research and create resources that make a difference in people’s lives, including your own.
