Hello everyone!
My name is Karly. I am just under 2 weeks into this whole journey. I got my diagnosis very quickly, compared to what my pcp was warning me that it would take (which was strange to me because my journey was started by lab tests and not from symptoms that I noticed). I'm still kind of in shock that I've been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and while I have random flare up days (I think. I don't really know what's going on yet), most days I feel normal. I was told that they caught it early enough to get me on medication before any joint damage happens, so I feel lucky, but I also feel like a fake because I don't have intense pain yet. Right now I am on a prednisone taper and hydroxychloroquine. Right now, my mental health is being hurt the most because I'm just kind of confused and no one in my friends/family group understands what I'm going through. I'm happy to find a group of people who know what this journey is like.
Hello Karly, and a warm welcome to you!
This community embraces individuals dealing with all forms of arthritis. Receiving a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis aka RA might seem daunting,
yet there are proactive measures you can adopt to effectively navigate your condition. By educating yourself about RA initiating
appropriate treatments, and adopting beneficial lifestyle habits, you can significantly mitigate discomfort and symptoms.
This enables you to engage once more in the activities you cherish. Utilize the resources available here to begin your journey toward taking charge of your well-being.

Hey everybody! My son (12) just got diagnosed with JIA a few weeks ago and we are trying to navigate things from medication to lifestyle changes. Any input, recommendations really anything that anyone has to share about JIA we would love to hear. I am also curious do you find that they seem to have other issues along with JIA. We are seeing about 8 specialists at this point trying to get a care plan together because he has so many areas affected by inflammation. We also found out he has HLA B-27. Looking forward to hearing from everyone. Thank you!

Good Morning, My name is Johnathan and my son has been suffering with JIA for awhile now. He was taking Methotrexate once a week and Humira every two weeks. He appreared to become sick from the Methotrexate and after talking to his doctor we have stopped both of the meds. He has been feeling better and eating well. Today he woke up with knees slightly swollen, indicating a flare up. We have been looking for alternate treatment for him. Has any tried a more holistic approach to treatment with any success?
Thanks for sharing

I am no doctor, just a volunteer facilitator but
Cold packs, hot packs, or a hot bath/shower can help reduce symptoms of JIA.
Heat works best to relieve stiff joints and tired muscles, especially first thing in the morning. Cold numbs painful areas and reduces inflammation.
Eating a healthy diet can help reduce inflammation in the body

Did your rheumatologist talk with you about Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine)? I'm 23, had undiagnosed JIA that transitioned into RA. My doc started me on Plaquenil once a day and slowly increased to two. I told her I had extreme sensitivity with eating & taking pills, so she said Plaquenil is one of the safest & best options to start on. I also get prescribed nausea medication to help with the sickness. I know a lot of people have also found success using CBD for RA & nausea.

Hello, my name is Wanda. I have had RA for 34 years now. I am scheduled for a shoulder replacement Nov. 5, 2019. I was wondering if anyone has had a shoulder replacement? I am kind of scared and excited, but I know that it has to be done. Wish me luck. Thanks, Wanda
Hello Wanda! Hope you are doing well since your shoulder replacement. How did it go? I haven't had shoulder replacement, but have had both hips replaced. It was quite an experience!
