Live Yes! Connect Groups offer local connections, education and empowerment. Adults living with arthritis from our local community come together for professional- and volunteer-led sessions on a variety of topics, as well as fun group activities.
We offer a place of understanding and encouragement for both people living with arthritis and their loved ones. Group participants become self-advocates, develop self-management skills and learn how to not just survive life with arthritis but to thrive.

Hi,
I just learned that I have RA in my hand and sadly my current younger doctor seems like she doesn't cares since she just told me to take supplements. No suggestion of hand therapy, gut health, or even diagnosing my hand except for a visual, "Oh yeah, I can see your thumb also has arthritis (outside of my pinky with this noticeable bump on the first joint.) 3 months ago she determined the bump was an insect bite. Being a past healthcare advocate since 2009 with LA CARE HEALTH PLAN,(I left this position last year) but I immediately began to learn more about RA and suggested what she should of offered as a doctor. Maybe it's time to find another doctor who meets my expectations more. Anyway, I guess this will be my first encounter with my aging body that needs careful adjustments to prolong the usage of my hands. Any suggestions will help since if I lose the usage of my right hand I will have a difficult time living my creative life. I'm a graphic designer, uses computers, likes to cook fresh meals daily and grow my produce. My hand hurts and my bones keep making cracking sounds, Luckily I purchased the SPORTS RESEARCH OMEGA-3 oil 180 softgels prior to my discovery of RA. I will start taking these today!! Wondering if it's ok to stack other glucosamine chondroitin supplements, probiotics, etc.. without overdoing it? What has worked for you with RA hand issues? My moms fingers are all twisted up and she's 88 yrs old. I want to prevent my hands from getting that way! Thank you for reading this!
Hi Cristina! I'm so sorry to hear that you're having hand pain! Are you seeing a rheumatologist for your RA? I would refer any supplement questions to them or another qualified medical provider.
I only experience hand pain off and on, but when my finger joints are acting up I have found compression gloves to be helpful and generally very comfy...like a hug for my hands. Keeping my hands warm also helps. There is an RA-specific connect group that may have more suggestions for hand pain, or other members of our group may have more experience with hand pain and can add their favorite tips and tricks.
Unfortunately I have also had the experience of having a provider who I didn't think was the right fit for me and I ultimately changed providers. If you feel like you want to try a new/different provider, the Arthritis Foundation website has a Find a Doctor tool to find providers near your zip code, and some advice on finding the right doctors for you.
I hope you are able to find some relief soon!
Hello All,
I'm newly diagnosed with RA. Does anyone have any advice on pain management for burning/soreness in the ribs and back? Any recommendations for medications that may work and target my chronic pain?
Thanks,
Estee
Hi Estee and welcome! I'll leave medication recommendations to the medical professionals but I have found that my particular back pain symptoms respond well to heat. I love having one of those vest-style heating pads handy that I can wear while still getting on with my day if needed.
There are a few other connect groups you might find helpful as well, including one specifically focused on RA, one for folks newly diagnosed, and one focusing on chronic pain.
We'll be holding our next virtual event on 1/11 if you'd like to come chat with other folks there, and please feel free to ask any other questions here as well! I know there is a lot to process and learn when newly diagnosed. I hope you find some things that bring you some relief soon!
Hello,
I just joined this group. I live in WLA and am looking for a support group for those with rheumatoid arthritis, either online or in person.
I am looking to learn the expereince of others with this disease and how they manage with it.
And chronic pain management.
Any leads are appreciatted.
Thanks.
Audrey
Hi Audrey! Welcome to the group! We have both in person and virtual events coming up. On December 8 we'll be meeting at Los Feliz Cafe (after the Los Angeles jingle bell run, though you do not need to participate in the run to attend lunch!) for our Jingke Bell Lunch (each individual is responsible for purchasing their own meal) and gathering as a community. Then on January 11 we'll be meeting online to create vision boards for the new year and have an open sharing session to talk about our vision boards or anything else attendees would like to share! You can find more details and registration links for both of those events here. You might also be interested in the chronic pain connect group. You can find more information about that group here. It looks like their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 9 (online). We hope to see you at an event soon, and please don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions!

We want to brainstorm effectively and plan a great day for everyone, whether they can walk or not. In short, we’re looking for people who want to create great experiences for those living with arthritis and are passionate about the cause. This wouldn't be a huge commitment, just trying to get some input for ideas to make it great for EVERYONE. If arthritis were an animal, what would it be and why?
A nocturnal leech. It comes at night and you don’t see it coming and it sucks the life and energy out of you and leaves you with pain and messed up joints.
